Which wines should be decanted?

Usually, wines that need decanting are wines with a longer ageing period, as they may have some precipitation and need aeration to express their full range of aromas.

This process is done in a vessel called a decanter which, due to its shape, enables a larger surface area of the wine to be in contact with the air.

It’s very important to pour the wine into the decanter slowly to avoid pouring any precipitated solids into the decanter.
